What to expect from hiring

At Balena, we understand that a great team is about more than just talent. It's about the right environment. Because we never want to set anyone up for failure, we treat our hiring process as a two-way conversation. Our goal is to be completely transparent, giving you the space to figure out if we're the right fit for you while we do the same.

Our process is designed for mutual discovery. If it becomes clear to either you or us that it’s not a good fit, we believe in being open and concluding the process at that point. This ensures we respect everyone's time and effort.

Stages of the hiring process

  • Please tell us about your experience, what brought you to apply to Balena, and how you feel your skills could contribute to our team. We're most interested in hearing your own voice and perspective here. While AI tools are useful, please ensure your answers genuinely reflect how you think and communicate.

  • This is your opportunity to meet the team. We'll schedule a casual chat where you can discuss your experience and ask questions. It's a chance for all of us to learn more about each other.

  • We’ll focus on your technical skills in a practical session. You will join two team members to work through a challenge related to the role. This helps us see your skills in action and gives you a sense of the problems we solve here.

  • This is a conversation to explore our culture in depth. You’ll talk with one or two team members to see if our values resonate with you. It’s an important chance for both of us to ensure we’re a good match.

  • If we all agree that balena is the right fit, we will be delighted to extend a job offer. From there, we’ll work together to build an agreement that works for everyone.
